I’ve loved keyboard shortcuts since before the mouse became a common device in Windows so I wasn’t surprised to read research that showed most tasks in Microsoft Word are performed three times faster with the keyboard instead of the mouse. This photo was taken at the Boston Computer Museum about 10 or 15 years ago.

Here is an expansion of the keyboard shortcuts included in the book:

Press these keys:

Capture screen shot Press "PrtSc" to copy the screen and paste into Paint

Choose or clear a check box in active window

Spacebar

Click menu item without mouse

Alt + underlined letter

Close active window

Alt + F4

Copy

Ctrl + C

Cut

Ctrl + X

Delete a file

Shift + Delete

Display Help in a program

F1

Display Start menu

Ctrl + Escape

Minimize all windows Window Button + M

Move backward through a screen form

Shift + Tab

Move forward through a form or dialog box

Prevent CD from automatically playing

Hold Shift when you insert a CD
