Word is programmed to do
certain tasks automatically, sometimes to our amusement and sometimes
frustration.
For example start something
with a number 1., for example, and it continues to number subsequent paragraphs
until you grow old.
To stop it, click Edit /
Undo Auto Format. Do the same to
control bullet points.
You may be stumped if you
attempt to draw a line across a page or insert a few dashes. When you press
Enter to go to the next line, Word changes your keystrokes into a bold line
running all the way to the right margin. And, you can't delete it. Here are two solutions: click Edit / Undo
format, or insert a space after the characters you type instead of pressing
Enter. That creates a break and Word will leave the line just as you typed it.
The automatic line feature
is handy though, when you want to format a document with consistent lines. And, there are five formats you can choose
for the line.
To control the format, type
three or more of the following characters in your document and press Enter.
You'll create a stylish line to use between sections or under titles in your
document. To remove an unwanted line, either click Edit / Undo or
highlight the white space above and below the line and press Delete. For more
precise line control, click View / Toolbars and bring up the Drawing toolbar.
It has enough line and shape tools and customizing options to satisfy even an
architect.
